A mid-race safety car for a violent crash by Fabio Leimer at Eau Rouge recharged and transformed the Spa sprint race into an impressive display of clean on-track battles, giving an opportunity for Luca Filippi to complete an impressive surge from fifth on the grid and past Josef Kral for the race win.

Jules Bianchi seemed particularly reinvigorated by the mid-race hiatus and was the man on the move in the second half, pulling off a penultimate lap move on Kral to claim a second consecutive second place for the Spa weekend.
