The Racers Group has confirmed that it will partner Tim George Jr with Spencer Pumpelly for the 2008 Grand Am Rolex Series season, with the pair joining forces for an assault on the GT class of the series.

George took five top tens during the Koni Challenge Series season in 2007, despite being in only his third year of racing, while Pumpelly - a previous winner in the Daytona 24 Hours - will aim to help the rookie go for the title at the wheel of the Porsche 997.

"All of us at TRG are excited to have Tim on board for 2008," team owner Kevin Buckler said. "With several strong seasons under his belt and an impressive learning curve, he has stepped it up to our GT programme.

"He is extremely fit and focused on the tasks ahead for 2008. Tim is going to bring a number of strengths to our organization and will become a valuable member of the sales and marketing team back at the office. Spencer and Tim will be a strong force, competing for wins every time they hit the track this season.

"The Rolex GT category has been an extremely fruitful one for us over the last several years. Tim and Spencer bring youth, aggression, and enthusiasm to our team, and I know our guys will provide them with the best equipment out there, so we're expecting big things next year."

George himself admits he can't wait to take part in the coming season, and said he was confident of being competitive.

"Racing has become a huge part of my life, but I really want to internalise the business side as well," he said. "I have to thank TRG for the opportunity to become a well-rounded part of their organisation. Through Kevin and the guys back at the shop, I'm learning about how the industry operates. With Spencer Pumpelly as my co-driver, I know we'll be competitive at the track this season."

Pumpelly himself said he was confident that the 2008 season will give him his best chance yet of going for the title.

"I am extremely excited to be working with Tim in 2008," he said. "I was really impressed with his performance in last year's Koni Challenge series and his first Rolex race at Barber, and I think in 2008 we have a really good shot at some strong results."
