Alex Gurney admits that the GAINSCO Racing team are hurting on straight line speed after the first two hours of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

A relatively incident free opening to the race has seen the 2007 title winners running inside the top ten but they have proved to be unable to match the pace of the leading Penske and Brumos Racing entries out front.

However, Gurney admitted that, while straight line speed wasn't what it could be, the team was still confident for the remainder of the race.

"We wanted to keep it clean and stay on the lead lap which we have managed to do," he said following his stint in the car. "The car is okay, but we are hurting a bit on the straights at the moment when we get into a drag race. I'm sure Jimmie [Johnson] is going to do a good job though.

"The race is currently slightly quicker than we expected it to be. We thought they would be running high 43s and at the moment its low 43s. We can do that if we have clear laps but you might only get one or two of those in a few hours."

Johnson currently sits tenth during his first stint.
