IndyCar Series newcomer Team 3G has revealed that it intends to operate a ladder system designed to bring talent through the ranks, with Star Mazda outfit Kester Racing forming the first rung for 2009.

3G announced its entry into the IndyCar Series competition late last year, and will run sometime NASCAR aspirant - and professional stuntman - Stanton Barrett in its inaugural campaign. Before it has even turned a wheel in anger, however, the team is looking to the future, with the announcement that it will partner the family combination of JC and Kristy Kester in the feeder formula this year.

"This has been the plan since we started the team," 3G co-owner Greg Beck insisted, "We want to provide an opportunity for drivers to begin their careers in the Star Mazda Series and go on to compete in the IndyCar Series."

Partner Steve Sudler, a marketing expert, sees the new relationship bringing advantages outside the nurturing of on-track talent.

"This will allow us to continue to establish a solid foundation for the team in 2009," he noted, "We see this as an opportunity to introduce new marketing partners to the sport at an affordable level and work with the drivers to develop a sponsorship value proposition that leads them towards Firestone Indy Lights and then the IndyCar Series."

Kester Racing made a solid impression in its inaugural Star Mazda season, fielding the only brother-sister team in US professional motorsports. Both JC and Kristy Kester enjoyed strong rookie seasons, with the latter finishing ninth in the standings.

"I am thrilled to be joining Team 3G," owner Jeff Kester commented, "I look forward to working with them to deliver race wins and a championship run in 2009. Greg and Steve are building a strong organisation and, together, we will be able to develop young drivers and sponsors with the hopes of bringing them to the IndyCar Series."

Kester confirmed that his offspring would not be the only drivers under consideration for the scheme, ahead of the new Star Mazda campaign, which kicks off at Sebring on 20 March.
