Stefan Wilson has completed his rumoured switch to the US open-wheel scene by inking a limited deal to drive the #19 FIRST Motorsports entry in the 2009 Firestone Indy Lights Series.

FIRST Motorsports is a division of the ASR Motorsports Group, and will be overseen by the veteran Walker Racing organisation in 2008.

"Derrick Walker and his operation have a very impressive history in open-wheel racing," team owner Jon Lewis acknowledged, "Walker Racing was very interested in our programme and returning to IndyCar, and we are very excited about our new association."

Wilson, who joins elder brother Justin in the USA, is the team's first signing, and will contest the non-oval portion of the season.

"We are very proud that Stefan has chosen to join our team and we are looking forward to a very successful season," Lewis stated.

"His programme currently includes all of the road course events in 2009 as we work together to increase the funding to enable him to drive the entire series schedule."

Wilson moves to Indy Lights from the British F3 series, where he took four wins in the 2008 National category. Prior to that, he finished as runner-up in the 2007 Formula Palmer Audi Championship, and beat five other British racing talents to claim the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.

"I'm delighted to be competing for FIRST Motorsports in the 2009 Firestone Indy Lights Series," he said, "I'm really looking forward to working with Jon Lewis - and also with Derrick Walker and his staff.

"It's been a tough challenge over the winter to secure enough funding to compete in the road course events, but I'd really like to compete in some of the oval events too - especially the Freedom 100 - if I can acquire a sponsor in time.

"For now, I'm focusing 100 per cent on St Petersburg. I've never driven there, but I'll be tapping into my brother's circuit knowledge. I'm looking forward to a successful season and can't wait to get started."

FIRST Motorsports recently purchased a 2007 chassis, which is currently going through preparation at Walker Racing, with an extensive road course pre-season test schedule planned throughout March.
