As Rocketsports Racing's Alex Tagliani heads to Mexico City for the Grand Premio Telmex/Gigante Presented by Banamex/Visa, he readies himself for a weekend he calls, "not just a race, but an experience."

Tagliani will take the No. 33 Johnson Controls Lola to the 2.786 mile Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico's capital and anticipates an excellent weekend, highlighted by 70 hard, bumpy laps of the former Mexican Grand Prix venue where "a good track and great fans are the key ingredients."

"The Gran Premio is a great event at a fantastic venue," said Tagliani. "The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is an awesome road course, with high speed 'esses' in the back, the long straight-away and a few areas for passing. The break in the stands through the old ball park is thrilling, but the whole track is challenging and fun."

Tagliani recalls the inaugural 2002 event that drew nearly 175,000 excited fans on race day, and likens their enthusiasm to that of the fans in his hometown of Montreal.

"Mexican fans are great," he smiled. "They're supportive and passionate about racing. They remind me of Montreal race fans that go nuts for the local favourites, but encourage all the drivers with their enthusiasm. Mexican fans appreciate challenges and celebration, and that's racing.

"My friend, Michel (Jourdain), was successful in my hometown with the enthusiastic crowds of Montreal. I would like to win here in Michel's home and celebrate with the Mexican fans," suggested Tagliani. Interestingly, Jourdain's two career wins have come this season when Tagliani has been on the pole, in Milwaukee and Montreal.

With 75 career starts in four years of Champ Car racing, Tagliani has earned 15 top five finishes and 38 top-ten finishes, including three career-best second place podiums In 2002 in Mexico City, Tagliani qualified with a time of 1:27.437secs, started 14th
and finished 10th

Tagliani is currently ninth in the Champ Car World Series standings with 91 points. He has secured two poles and three podiums among his ten top-ten finishes for the first year Rocketsports team.
