The 2003 Indy Racing League IndyCar Series ended under a cloud as a horrific-looking accident between Tomas Scheckter and Kenny Brack brought the season-ending Chevy 500 to a close five laps short of the 200-lap distance.

Gil de Ferran has won his final race before retiring as an active driver and Scott Dixon is the 2003 IRL IndyCar Series Champion although there are no celebrations at the Texas Motor Speedway as everyone anxiously awaits news on the condition of Brack, whose Team Rahal Dallara-Honda somersaulted into the catch fencing and disintegrated after riding over the rear-end of Scheckter's Target Chip Ganassi Racing G Force-Toyota on lap 189.

With the catch-fencing at the end of the back-straight completely torn away in places, IRL officials brought out the red flag on lap 195. de Ferran was declared the winner ahead of new Champion Dixon and Rookie of the Year Dan Wheldon.

The IRL medical team are currently attending to Brack on the apron at the inside of turn three at the 1.5-mile Speedway and crash.net will provide updates when available.
