Dan Wheldon took another major stride towards the 2005 IRL IndyCar Series title with an impressive victory at the always-tricky one-mile Pikes Peak International Raceway.

The Englishman finished ahead of Sam Hornish Jr and Tony Kanaan, who were the only drivers to complete all 225 laps of a race slowed by only one caution period and that saw some drivers lapped half a dozen times.

Pole winner Helio Castroneves was fourth, with Vitor Meira and rookie Tomas Enge completing the top half dozen.

Dario Franchitti was running in the top three before a botched final pit stop dropped him to seventh while Danica Patrick claimed eighth.

Full report to follow.
