The Mansell name returned to Champ Car circles this week as Walker Racing added 1993 CART champion Nigel's sons Greg and Leo to its testing roster ahead of the 2008 Champ Car Atlantic campaign

The test was the second for Derrick Walker's 'junior' team, which confirmed, in August, that Canadian Kevin Lacroix would fill one of its seats next season. The Mansells have contested this year's British F3 series with differing results, Greg rounding out the top ten in the standings. The siblings have always competed on the same teams since starting out, briefly, in karts before switching to Formula BMW and then, this year, to F3. Now, despite doubts over Leo's desire, the pair have sampled Atlantic power with a view to possibly switching to the US scene in 2008.

"I was really pleased to be able to test Nigel's sons in our Atlantic cars," ex-pat Walker commented, "We are getting a lot more interest from Europe since the introduction of the new car, and it really has been an enjoyable couple of days of testing. Leo and Greg got a really good appreciation for the Mazda Atlantic car and they both did a very good job indeed. It will be great to see them in Atlantics next year as I think they would do very well in the series."

Both brothers felt that they had gained from the experience of running for two days at Sebring.

"The car had so much grip and it does exactly what you want it to - for a driver, that's fantastic," Leo commented, "Walker Racing is by far the most professional outfit we have worked with by a mile. Every change we made, we continued to move forward."

"Today was brilliant," Greg echoed, "The Atlantic car was a handful, [but] the ground effects and the natural progression from a F3 car to the Atlantic car was amazing and for it to still be a handful was great. Walker Racing was fantastic to work with - it was definitely refreshing to work with such a professional team that works so well together. It felt like I was working with an F1 team - I had to keep reminding myself it was an Atlantic team."

Walker will continue to ponder his line-up, with further tests scheduled for the near future.
