Will Power has received approval from Champ Car medical officials to race in this week's Gran Premio Tecate in Mexico City after confirmation that the wrist injury he sustained on home soil last time out is healing well.

The Team Australia pilot incurred the injury after clashing with Katherine Legge on lap 19 of the Lexmark Indy 300 last month, a rash move to pass the Briton also sending Power out of the race with broken suspension. Champ Car medical officials discovered that the Australian had suffered two small hairline fractures in his left wrist but, as the fractures were not displaced, the healing time was put at three to four weeks, with no operation required.

Subsequent x-rays and scans, taken in the week after the incident, have been examined and seen Power given the all-clear to race in the final round of the season at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this weekend.

"Each day my wrist feels better and I'm confident going into Mexico," he said, "This track will be the real test, so it will be good to make sure everything is in place on Friday so we can end the season on a high come Sunday."

Twelve months ago, Justin Wilson faced a similar predicament, having broken his wrist at Surfers Paradise, but managed to contest the entire Mexican weekend, despite having Adam Carroll on stand-by at the RuSPORT team. Like the Briton, Power - a title contender until the final quarter of the 2007 campaign - will wear a special carbon-fibre brace throughout the weekend, and has been granted 15 minutes prior to the first practice session on Friday to make sure that all is well with the protection.

"Will should be up and running a 100 per cent for Mexico," Team Australia co-owner Derrick Walker insisted, "Champ Car is providing us some additional track time and it's greatly appreciated, because it will allow a great opportunity to get the support properly fitted to his wrist so that going into official practice we shouldn't have any issues at all. Mexico is a track that suits Will well, so being 100 percent fit and raring to go should work well for us."
