While a certain sense of doom and gloom surrounds the category, Frenchman Franck Perera believes that he will shortly be able to reveal his plans to join the Champ Car World Series in 2008.

The 2007 Champ Car Atlantic rookie of the year and overall runner-up tested with Forsythe Racing late last year, and is confident that he will be able to step up after just one year in the feeder series, although he was not prepared to confirm his destination just yet.

"I've raced in many series around the world and Champ Car is a very exciting series with a high level of competition and many great teams," he claimed, "I left Europe to come to the US to be in the Champ Car and, since the Atlantic season ended, my managers at CJMotorsport have been working very hard for next season.

"After my test with Forsythe in November, I have been back home in France training non-stop, but I can't wait to get back in a Champ Car again with my new team and start working towards the championship in 2008."

The rumour mill suggests that Perera will not stray too far from Forsythe when it comes to announcing the deal, and could team up with veterans Paul Tracy and Justin Wilson in a three-car squad running under the Forsythe/Pettit Racing banner following former RuSPORT owner Dan Pettit's arrival.

Despite his ambitions to step up, however, Perera insists that he will not forget the series that helped bring him to the attention of those in Champ Car.

"I wish Vicki [O'Connor] at the Atlantic Series and Chris [Pantini] at Cooper Tyre, as well as Mazda, all the best next season," he smiled, "I'll be by to check on them!"
