After his disaster last weekend, Ryan Villopoto came out strong for the legendary Daytona round of the AMA Supercross series.

Villopoto was initially leading when a horrific crash by Grant Langston bought the red flags out and stopped the race - the former World and AMA champion came up short on a big triple and cartwheeled out of the race. In a career that's been dogged by injury, let's hope the South African has been lucky this time.

When the race restarted, Villopoto again got the jump out of the gate with rival with series leader Ryan Dungey behind Josh Hill in third place.

Dungey battled his way past Hill but was unable to close the gap down to Villopoto - if there were any question marks about Villopoto's fitness after his knee injury last, year, the Monster Energy Kawasaki star answered them all at Daytona, running strong all the way to the finish and never giving Dungey any chance to engage him in battle.

Behind them, Trey Canard took his third podium in a row ahead of Kevin Windham, who had to come from deep in the pack for fourth.

In the east coast Lites class, reigning champion Christophe Pourcel overcame early leader Austin Stroupe and edged away for the win to remain unbeaten thus far - Stroupe took second after fighting off the attentions of Dean Wilson and Blake Baggett, with Justin Barcia making a last lap pass on Ryan Sipes for fifth.
