AMA Pro Racing has announced the schedule for the 2003 AMA Chevy Trucks US Motocross Championship, regarded as the world's most prestigious national series.

The series will open in Southern California in May and conclude near Pittsburgh in late August. As in 2002, a total of twelve rounds will again make up the championship.

Glen Helen Raceway will open the series in San Bernardino on 11 May, before it moves on to Northern California and the annual Hangtown Classic, near Sacramento, on 18 May. High Point Raceway, at Mt Morris, again hosts the first race in the East, on 25 May.

It's old-school motocross when the championship visits Motocross 338 in Southwick, on 8 June. This rough and sandy circuit harkens back to the early days of motocross and fans enjoy the feel and intimacy of the good old days of the sport on this timeless track. The series then moves close to the nation's capital when it comes to Budds Creek on 15 June. The championship moves to the Midwest for the rounds at Red Bud Track-N-Trail in Buchanan, and Kenworthy's MX Park in Troy, on back-to-back weekends. Red Bud runs 6 July and Kenworthy's on 13 July.

The internationally renowned Unadilla, historically the site of many AMA races, is slated to run on 20 July. The gruelling four-week stretch of races in July concludes on the lush and loamy hills of Washougal on the 27th.

The homestretch of the series begins at Spring Creek Motocross Park on 17 August, while Broome-Tioga Sports Centre, about 20 miles north of Binghamton, plays host to round eleven of the twelve-race series on 24 August. The series again wraps up on Labor Day weekend at Steel City Raceway in Delmont on 31 August.

"With the growing popularity of motocross each year, AMA Pro Racing receives numerous requests and inquiries about additions or changes to the schedule," said Duke Finch the governing body's motocross manager, "We work closely with each of our motocross promoters to pick the best date for their event considering local activities that could impact the success of the events, then balance that with team travel patterns, weather and the historical dates for each national."
