2 - Dani Pedrosa

2010 was by far Dani Pedrosa's best in the MotoGP class, despite the late-season collarbone injury that ended his slim title hopes.

Mixed performances during the first five races, as he battled stability issues with the new-for-2010 Ohlins/RCV partnership, allowed Jorge Lorenzo to build a healthy lead.

But Pedrosa then finished first or second in the seven races from Assen onwards to put some pressure on his fellow Spaniard.

Even without the injury Pedrosa is unlikely to have been champion, but he could well have won more races. As it is, his four wins still doubled his previous best in a single season and second place in the championship matched his best MotoGP points ranking.

Despite missing three races while his collarbone healed, and being a shadow of his usual self in the last two rounds as he struggled with a lack of strength, Pedrosa finished the season with 39 points more than fully-fit Repsol Honda team-mate Andrea Dovizioso.

Pedrosa was only twelve points clear of Rossi by the end of the year, but won twice as many races as the Italian.
