Well, perhaps compared to the past few years, 2016's curtain raiser wasn't a fairing-bashing epic. But it was interesting nonetheless, and shows the the winner will have formidable opponents in the form of Marquez, his team-mate and, of course, both Ducatis. Roll on Argentina!

20 March, 2016 - 18:59

As he came into parc fermé, Lorenzo stood atop his foot pegs and motioned a zipping of the mouth. A gesture for those that booed him from the grandstands I'd imagine.

20 March, 2016 - 18:57

Now Lorenzo: To choose the right rear tyre was important. I tried the hard one in warm up but I didn't get the right feeling. It was a risk to try the soft and finally it was good. I could make the fast lap. It's always important to start in the podium, even better for the race win. Let's enjoy tonight with a great party.

20 March, 2016 - 18:55

Dovizioso: When you finish the race with Marc it's difficult to fight. We both struggled on maximum angle. On exit we destroyed the tyre. In the last corner I knew Marc would try but my engine helped me to beat him. We finish the season with not so good feeling but we worked really well and arrived here very competitive. I'm so happy to start like this.

20 March, 2016 - 18:54

Marquez in parc fermé: The last corner was the only chance. I knew if I overtook there he would get me by the line. I'm happy because I did my maximum. Maybe I could have got 2nd but happy with the result. 16 points for the championship and now comes some tracks that are better for us.

20 March, 2016 - 18:52

And coming off a wretched off-season, Marquez's 3rd is surely a minor miracle. Honda's outright saviour.

20 March, 2016 - 18:51

A measured ride from Dovizioso in 2nd. That Ducati is more than a match for any other machine out there. You imagine Lorenzo made the difference today.

20 March, 2016 - 18:50

One man that looks far from content with his placing was Viñales. 6th is a fine ride but still, for a man that thought he could scrap for the win, 6th place and around 15 seconds off the race winner is just under his expectations.

20 March, 2016 - 18:49

If you scan a dictionary and look up the meaning of 'masterclass' you would find a photo of Lorenzo's race today. He waited for the right moment, and struck a crucial blow late into the race. That fastest lap 3 from the end was something special and, really, no one had a chance of beating him from there.

22/22: Lorenzo wins as Marquez tries at the final corner but he runs wide! Dovizioso 2nd, Marquez 3rd, Rossi 4th.

20 March, 2016 - 18:43

22/22: Marquez has a sniff at turn 6 but he isn't close enough. Dovizioso has 2nd bar a late mistake...

20 March, 2016 - 18:42

20 March, 2016 - 18:42

22/22: Final lap & Dovizioso passes Marquez along the front straight! Rossi's there too...

20 March, 2016 - 18:41

21/22: As Lorenzo disappears, Rossi closes - just over 1 lap to decide this 3-way scrap for 2nd.

20 March, 2016 - 18:41

21/22: Wow, Lorenzo was holding something back! A 1m 54.9s lap is 0.8s faster than everyone else. That's why he's world champion.
