Loris Capirossi may not have held onto 'P1' during day two of the Sepang test, but the MotoGP veteran did confirm the potential of the new Suzuki by being a close second fastest - between 2007 world champion Casey Stoner (Ducati) and 2008 title holder Valentino Rossi (Yamaha).

"I quite enjoyed the day because we improved a little bit compared with yesterday," said the Italian, who lowered his best lap time by 0.314sec. "We tried some new things, including one new chassis this afternoon, which was not too bad.

"For sure it been a good start to the year, we have improved a lot from last year and we are much quicker. We have to continue to work on the engine but if we can do that then I really think we are ready to fight," he declared.

"Our bike, the package is not too bad, but we struggle a little with the engine. We have to change something. I hope it will happen soon," concluded Loris, who took one podium during an injury-interrupted first season with Suzuki.

Capirossi's team-mate Chris Vermeulen was fifth fastest.

Testing concludes on Saturday.
