Honda's leading World Superbike and Supersport team, Ten Kate, is the latest outfit to express an interest in the new 600cc Moto2 class, which will replace the 250cc World Championship from 2011 - and may race in 2010.

The Dutch tuning experts, winners of the 600cc World Supersport Championship from 2002-2008 - as well as the 2007 World Superbike crown - seem a perfect match for the new category, and team manager Ronald ten Kate confirmed an entry is being considered.

"Moto2, because it is based on 600cc machinery, in which we already have a proven track record, is for sure a class we are looking at," said ten Kate, speaking exclusively to "But first we have to see exactly what the rules are going to be.

"There is a set of rules in place, but it is not so defined yet. So we're just going to wait and see. Probably during the second half of this season we'll decide if we are going to build a Moto2 machine or not."

ten Kate added that, should the Moto2 project get the go-ahead, the team would have two possible options.

"When and if there is going to be a Moto2 machine built, we would need to decide if we want to run the machine ourselves, or just lease it out - or sell it - for customers to race," he said.

Should ten Kate decide to enter Moto2, many believe they already have at least one ideal rider under contract in the form of 2007 WSS champion Kenan Sofuoglu. The Turkish star looks set to stick with 600cc racing for the foreseeable future after a tough 2008 debut in the WSBK class.

"I believe that Kenan's riding style would for sure be good for a Moto2 bike, but it is not an issue at the moment because we happy where we are and the project ahead of us for 2009 and 2010, which is in World Superbike and World Supersport," said ten Kate.

Sofuoglu will return to WSS for 2009, when he will ride alongside Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's reigning champion Andrew Pitt. Carlos Checa, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Johnny Rea will form Ten Kate Honda's 2009 WSBK line-up.

Herve Poncharal recently told that Tech 3 will build a Moto2 machine later this year, while Moriwaki, Blusens and LaGlisse have already unveiled a design.
