Repsol Honda team manager Kazuhiko Yamano is hoping that star rider Dani Pedrosa will be fit to take part in the final test session of the year, at Jerez on March 28-29.

Pedrosa is due to undergo surgery at 6pm today (Wednesday) on knee and forearm injuries sustained in a nasty Monday night accident at the Qatar test.

During the operation a titanium screw will be inserted to help the forearm fracture, whilst a small skin graft will be used to help heal the existing wound in his left knee, which was re-opened in the fall.

The world number three had a knee operation in December as a result of damage sustained on lap one of the Australian Grand Prix.

"Dani's fall was really unfortunate, though if I'm looking on the positive side, I'd rather this happened in a test than during a race weekend," said Yamano. "We hope he will be fit again as soon as possible - hopefully for the Jerez test."

In Pedrosa's absence, Randy de Puniet was the top Honda rider during the third and final night of testing in Qatar, albeit in seventh position. Pedrosa's new team-mate Andrea Dovizioso was eighth.
