Valentino Rossi has been taken to the medical centre after a fast crash during Saturday morning practice for his home Italian Grand Prix.

The reigning seven time MotoGP champion lost the rear of his Fiat Yamaha into the second part of a fast right/left sequence of turns and was thrown into a highside.

Rossi was then seen holding his right foot in the gravel - and in clear pain.

The accident occurred with 15 minutes of the one-hour session remaining, while Rossi was in third place, behind Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa.

Rossi is nine points behind Lorenzo in the 2010 world championship heading into Sunday's fourth round.

UPDATE: It has just been announced that Rossi is undergoing treatment in the medical centre for a suspected fracture of his right shinbone.
