Valentino Rossi will begin the next phase of his recovery closer to home after being released from a Florence hospital five days after breaking his leg during the Italian Grand Prix weekend.

The Italian was forced into a prolonged stay at the Centro Traumatologico Ortopedico in the northern Italian city following surgery to his broken leg, but has now been flown to a hospital in Cattolica close to his home.

The short statement from Yamaha went on to say that he will meet doctors there to discuss the next stage of his recovery.

It remains unclear how long Rossi is expected to stay out of action.
