Valentino Rossi has just left the pits on a Ducati MotoGP bike for the very first time.

Wearing back-and-yellow leathers and helmet (with a "?" on the top), and riding a black bike with a yellow #46, the seven-time MotoGP champion was forced to wait until 12:20 for track conditions at Valencia to improve after earlier rain.

Surrounded by photographers and TV cameras, Rossi left the pits on slick tyres, watched by his loyal group of mechanics - which have moved with him from Yamaha - and the likes of Ducati Corse boss Filippo Preziosi.

Ducati test rider Franco Battani and new Pramac Ducati signing Loris Capirossi were the only riders on track before Rossi.

Rossi rode for Honda from 2000-2003, then Yamaha from 2004-2010.

UPDATE: Rossi returned to the pits after just under ten laps, the best of which was a 1min 37.329sec. Rossi's fastest M1 lap time in Sunday's race was a 1min 32.970s.

Only Rossi, Capirossi and Battaini have been on track.
