Toni Elias says he is 'aware' that he needs to improve his pace on the LCR Honda despite cracking the top ten with a durable performance in the Spanish Grand Prix.

Having finished well off the pace on his return to the category in Qatar, Moto2 champion Elias was once more the consistent back marker during the Jerez weekend, behind even John Hopkins in his first event since 2008.

Though things improved in race conditions as Elias used his experience in the wet to battle with the mid-field initially, his eventual ninth place finish was more to do with persistence than outright speed, the Spaniard finishing behind three rivals that crashed and remounted.

Indeed, despite the good result on paper, Elias is still not happy with his performance and is eager to make imminent improvements.

"Honestly, I am not happy about the performance as my feeling on the bike was still bad but the ninth position in these conditions is a positive result for myself and the team," he said.

"I know I have been lucky because many riders crashed out and I was capable to end the race although the tyres situation was very difficult for everybody because we just had the warm up session on the wet.

"However we must continue our good job to improve our future performances... I am aware of this and want to thank my team for their efforts."
