Dani Pedrosa could be forced to miss the fifth round of the MotoGP World Championship in Barcelona as doctors decide whether he will need to undergo surgery on his fractured collarbone.

Pedrosa was left nursing the collarbone injury after a controversial clash with Gresini Honda rider Marco Simoncelli during the French Grand Prix at Le Mans.

Immediately returning to Barcelona, Pedrosa spent the night at Teknon Medical Centre where doctors confirmed the break in his right collarbone.

A short statement from the Repsol Honda team stated that Pedrosa, who has already gone under the knife for surgery on a troublesome arm injury this year, and doctors will consider the need to operate or allow it to simply heal by itself.

Either way, the statement revealed Pedrosa's participation in the upcoming Catalunya Grand Prix remains very much in doubt.

The accident, for which Simoncelli was handed a drive-thru penalty as punishment, prompted an angry reaction from Pedrosa after the race, the Spaniard feeling as though his Honda counterpart's aggressive outside pass left him with no choice but to go down. Simoncelli, though sorry for Pedrosa's injury, insists he wasn't to blame.
