The top ten countdown for Crash.net's 2011 MotoGP Rider of the Year begins with a bang, as former multiple poll winner Valentino Rossi is ranked in just tenth place.

Crash.net viewers gave Rossi an average mark of just 5.96 out of 10 for his debut season at Ducati, which saw the seven time MotoGP champion fail to win a race for the first time in his illustrious grand prix career.

Seventh in the world championship standings with one podium, you clearly felt Rossi should have achieved much more with the various versions of the factory Desmosedici he used during the year.

Although Rossi finished as the top Ducati rider in the championship (and nine of the 14 races he finished), comparisons with the success achieved by the factory's former rider Casey Stoner are sure to have counted against Rossi.
