Gino Rea's name may be on the official Moto2 entry list as a Gresini Moriwaki rider, and was present for the team during last week's official test, but the Englishman says he is yet to be confirmed.

"The majority of you will have seen the MotoGP official entries and therefore assume my 'job' has already been confirmed in Moto2," Rea wrote in his personal blog following the test.

"I have been in negotiation with the Gresini Racing Moto2 team since last year and am waiting for the confirmation. There are some things that the team are waiting on to confirm my position, but it's looking positive."

The 2011 World Supersport race winner overcame persistent technical problems at Valencia to finish the opening test of 2012 in ninth place. Team-mate and Moto2 regular Ratthapark Wilairot, the next best Moriwaki rider, was 25th.

"This time we had the new 2012 chassis to test and develop. Unfortunately, after 3 laps on the opening day the engine blew and we missed the rest of the day," said Rea. "On day 2 we suffered with a problem on the rear of the bike...

"The team made some big changes for day 3 and I went out to find the problem had got worse. We ended [up] changing the complete rear suspension. On my 2nd lap back out with tyres that had done 40 laps I done a low 1:37, the problem was fixed."

Despite the lost time, Rea had plenty of reasons to be optimistic - not least the variation in engines at the test.

"The team and Moriwaki were very happy with my riding, lap time, feedback and patience with everything," he said. "It's very hard to compare lap times to the other riders at these tests because most teams still have different spec engines.

"Some of the faster riders have the Geo Technology Moto2 spec engines and some have other spec. We used an old stock Honda engine and we know it was slower than the majority out there.

"I rode behind someone in particular who just pulled away from me down the straights even after I exited the corner faster, it was clear to see by everyone on pitlane watching! But I love that part of it, it just makes you work harder."

Rea will be back with Gresini at this week's Jerez test.

Gresini won the inaugural 2010 Moto2 title with Toni Elias and claimed an emotional race victory with Michele Pirro at Valencia last year.
