Beaten by Jorge Lorenzo at the last two events, Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa has seen his MotoGP title lead reduced to just seven points heading into this weekend's Dutch round at Assen.

Pedrosa took his first grand prix victory at Assen as a 125cc rider in 2002, but has not won at the legendary circuit since.

Leading the premier-class standings for the first time in five years, but under growing pressure from Lorenzo and Yamaha, a first Assen MotoGP win for Pedrosa on Saturday couldn't come at a better time.

"After a good race in Catalunya and an important 20 points, I still lead the championship and I am looking forward to Assen. I won my first ever race there and have very special memories," said Pedrosa.

"The weather can be temperamental so I hope we get some dry track time on Friday to find a good setting! It is a good track but it's important to have a good feeling with the tyres because there are several fast corners.

"I hope we can keep the momentum going and do a good race"

Pedrosa finished runner-up at Assen in 2008, 2010 and 2012.
