A provisional version of the 2014 MotoGP World Championship calendar has been announced.

The new events in Argentina and Brazil are both listed. Argentina's return - after a one year postponement - is officially confirmed, while Brazil is 'Subject to Homologation', pending modifications to the Brasilia circuit. The Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez is again 'Subject to Contract', as was the case last year.

As recently revealed, Laguna Seca has lost its place. However all the other 17-events from this season are present, meaning the MotoGP schedule is set to reach 19-events - the biggest ever line-up.

Increases in the MotoGP calendar are rare. The championship consisted of 16-rounds from 1999-2004, reached 17 for 2005-2006 and has comprised of 18 rounds for all but one season since.

As Herve Poncharal recently explained, expanding the race calendar is the main way to increase MotoGP's financial health - a tactic already employed by F1, which is planning a record 22-round season in 2014.

Spain (four) will still host the most MotoGP rounds next year, followed by two each for the US and Italy.

As is now traditional, the season will begin with the Qatar night race, at the earlier date of March 23, and conclude in Valencia on November 9. Two sets of three back-to-back events feature prior to Valencia.

The calendar could yet change. As well as the 'to be confirmed' events, the MotoGP schedule could react to further changes in the proposed F1 calendar.
