Cal Crutchlow (Ducati), Dani Pedrosa (Honda) and Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) each conducted at least one long run during Tuesday's second day of the Phillip Island MotoGP test.

Despite scorching temperatures, Pedrosa put in a 20-lap run to conclude the day. Rossi delivered two runs of 13 fast laps - each approximately half of the official grand prix race distance - while Crutchlow finished his Tuesday action with a 14-lap sequence.

Although the variety of Bridgestone tyres on offer this week may cloud the comparison, the average long-run lap time set by all three riders was extremely close:

Crutchlow set an average of 1m 30.226s (including one lap under 1m 30s) during his long run.

UPDATE: Crutchlow later revealed that he had done six laps with the same tyre just before starting the 14-lap run. Combining both runs gives an average time of 1m 30.367s over 20 laps - just a fraction shy of Pedrosa's pace over the same distance.

Pedrosa set an average of 1m 30.287s (three laps under 1m 30s) despite hitting a bird during his 20 lap (non-stop) run.

Rossi set an average of 1m 30.289s (one lap under 1m 30s) during the quicker of his long runs.

Pedrosa, joint fastest with Rossi at last week's Sepang test, said: "Today we tried two more tyres with a different construction - but with the same compound - and the feeling was not great with them. In any case, we picked the best of what we have tried over the past two days and put in 20 laps with those tyres. That experiment worked rather well, but it's really Bridgestone who have to analyse the data and give us their feedback for us to work with tomorrow."

Tuesday pace setter Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) and Crutchlow's team-mate Andrea Dovizioso did not do a long run.

Lorenzo (1m 29.133s) was fastest by 0.248s from Pedrosa in terms of best individual Tuesday lap time, followed by Dovizioso (+0.254s), Rossi (+0.383s) and Crutchlow (+0.527s).

Dovizioso set the highest top speed with 342.9km/h (213.1mph).

Ducati are racing under the new Open rules this season, which requires use of the standard ECU software but offers fuel, tyre and engine development benefits, while Honda and Yamaha are remaining in the Factory class.

Full race simulations are planned for Wednesday's final day, to ensure no repeat of last year's Australian Grand Prix tyre problems. However rain is forecast.

Phillip Island is the final pre-season test for the official Honda, Yamaha and Ducati teams. Those not present in Australia will test later this week in Qatar, venue for the opening round on March 20-23.
