Sam Lowes says he is 'ready to step up' to his new challenge ahead of his much anticipated Moto2 World Championship debut in Qatar this weekend.

Lowes makes the switch to the intermediate GP class after clinching the World Supersport Championship title last season, the British man riding for the factory Speed Up outfit.

Despite his rookie status, Lowes has shown impressive pace during pre-season testing, even if his last outing in Spain was curtailed by tendonitis in his wrist.

Still nursing the ailment heading to Qatar, though Lowes admits he isn't in an ideal condition for his Moto2 debut, he is nonetheless confident of a strong performance.

"I'm so excited to make my Moto2 debut this weekend and can't believe the start of the season is finally here! I feel mega after the recent tests and the bike is coming along really well. I'm looking forward to learning the new track and I've never ridden at night before, so that's going to be a great experience and a huge learning curve.

"My wrist will have had over a week's rest by the time I'm on track and although it's not ideal going into the first round with a slight injury, I'm going to give it my absolute all and just can't wait to get out there now. I've got a lot to learn, but I'm ready to step up to my new challenge."

Lowes's twin brother Alex - the reigning British Superbike Championship - is racing in the World Superbike Championship with Voltcom Crescent Suzuki.
