World champion Marc Marquez extended his perfect 2014 pole streak to five after crushing the opposition in qualifying at Le Mans.

The Repsol Honda star - also winner of all four races this season - broke the pole record on his first qualifying lap, then confirmed the position by a massive 0.692s on his final run.

Delighted rookie Pol Espargaro claimed his debut front row start with an excellent second for the home Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team, while Andrea Dovizioso delivered Ducati's best of the season with third (+0.713s).

Row two will be formed by LCR Honda's Stefan Bradl (+0.804s), then the Movistar Yamahas of Valentino Rossi (+0.831s) and Jorge Lorenzo (+0.857s). While Rossi had targeted a top five after a tough opening day, Lorenzo is likely to feel disappointed after leading this morning's FP3.

Marquez's team-mate Dani Pedrosa had even greater issues as he struggled to ninth on the grid (+0.981s), leaving him behind Gresini Honda's Alvaro Bautista and Forward Yamaha's Open class rider Aleix Espargaro on the third row.

Bradley Smith (Tech 3) and Andrea Iannone (Pramac Ducati) will also have expected much better than the fourth row after front-running practice form, while twelfth place Cal Crutchlow (Ducati Team) has struggled all weekend and only reached Q2 via Qualifying 1.

The Ducati and Open riders have the extra-soft and soft tyres available this weekend, with the Factory class Honda and Yamaha riders using the soft and medium.
