Yonny Hernandez may officially be in the Factory MotoGP class, but unlike the other Ducati riders he is still using last year's GP13 machine.

As such the Colombian was happy with a season-best tenth place at Mugello on Sunday, when he edged out Ducati test rider Michele Pirro to lead a train of five riders across the finish line.

"It was nice to fight with the old bike for the top 10 once again," Hernandez told Crash.net. "I'm happy to finish the job this time and with the work we've been doing with the team and Ducati. I think we can get more good results, especially if we can use the soft tyre again in the next races. This will be key.

"We need to work a lot because the drop of the tyre was too much today. The first part of the race I can fight, but at the end the bike was sliding a lot and the lap time was not good. Anyway I'm happy with the result now we just need to work on improving the end of the race."

Hernandez added: "Next is Catalunya which is like a home for me because I know the track well from the Spanish championship and I've done many tests there."

Team-mate Andrea Iannone, riding the GP14, finished seventh after qualifying on the front row.
