LCR Honda's Stefan Bradl said he didn't take enough risks after qualifying eighth for the Dutch MotoGP at Assen.

Bradl was 3.193s off Aleix Espargaro's pole time with a best lap in 1m 41.982s and felt he was too cautious in the opening part of Q2 when conditions were mixed.

"It was really difficult because you could see that some parts were wet and some were dry, so it was a big gamble," Bradl said.

"At the end of the day I felt I should maybe have taken a little bit more risk at the beginning but it's difficult to find the right moment, especially when a few guys are around and I couldn't dictate the pace.

"We can be happy because eighth is okay; we should have taken more risks but it's also easy to crash," he added.

"It was like a race; we overtook each other and because the weather situation was so tricky nobody knew the right thing to do.

"It's been a bit difficult for us; we couldn't find a big improvement on our bike setting. Also there's a big question mark over what the weather is doing tomorrow."

Bradl has yet to open talks over a possible extension of his contract with the team but admitted he was also looking elsewhere.

"There is nothing special I can say at the moment and I think we will start to talk soon," he said. "At the end of tis year my contract will finish so of course I am looking around."
