'Just playing' - Scott Redding talks helmet-down moment!

Not content with dragging his knees and arm when pushing on a fast lap (above), MotoGP rookie Scott Redding jokingly came close to touching his helmet on the asphalt during his slow-down lap after Qualifying at Valencia (below)!

"I thought it would bring some attention and I was just playing about," Redding smiled. "I'm enjoying the weekend to be fair because there's no stress and when I saw the pictures [at full lean], I thought I was quite close anyway.

"I told my girlfriend I'd do it and I was also talking to Jack Miller because he does some crazy stuff. I just dropped the head down - but I didn't want to touch it because the Shark [helmet] people would kick my arse!"

Redding will start his final race for the Gresini team from 14th on the grid, as the top Open Honda rider.

"It went really well and I'm just putting my laps together and not looking to follow anyone," said Redding. "I've been consistent all weekend and really consistent. We're struggling for front grip and for the front tyre. We were using the harder front tyre yesterday and today it didn't work because the temperature dropped a little bit so we had to use the soft tyre today.

"I used the dual compound and it was really good today, but we only have one and I did seven laps on it, so I might have to consider using it tomorrow. I'm hoping that the temperature comes up for the race because I don't want to use a seven lap old tyre in the race."

Redding holds an eight-point lead over Hiroshi Aoyama for top Open Honda honours heading into this afternoon's season finale. Aoyama, who has been given the 2015 RC213V-RS bike to debut this weekend, will start 18th.

Young Englishman Redding will make his debut on the Factory class Marc VDS Honda at next week's Valencia test.
