HRC test rider Hiroshi Aoyama fills in for Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa this weekend in the Austin MotoGP and the former 250cc world champion expects a challenging weekend in Texas.

Aoyama, who will also compete in the Argentina MotoGP as Pedrosa recovers from surgery to address his continuing issues with arm pump, wished the team's regular rider a speedy recovery as he prepares to link up with world champion Marc Marquez at the Circuit of the Americas.

"I'm very sorry for Dani's situation, I know how demanding it is to ride a MotoGP machine and with the problem he had, it's a great job to finish sixth in Qatar," said Aoyama.

"I would like to thank HRC for asking me to stand in for Dani in Austin, I will do my best and hope to enjoy this experience with the Repsol Honda Team.

"The Austin track is very demanding and technical, each session will be important to learn the bike and get to know the team, but I am looking forward to being there and racing in the USA with the MotoGP riders. I wish Dani a fast recovery and that he can return on track soon."

Marquez and Pedrosa completed a Repsol Honda one-two in Austin last year while Aoyama finished 17th in 2013 and 12th last year on the Open class Aspar Honda.
