Injured MotoGP racer Alex de Angelis is set to leave hospital in Japan on Sunday and return home to San Marino.

The Ioda rider suffered head, lung, vertebrae, rib, sternum and collarbone injuries in a practice accident at Motegi on October 10.

de Angelis, who has not suffered any spinal cord injury, will travel in a horizontal position to avoid straining his back and be accompanied on the flight by a doctor and his father Vinicio.

The #15 will be taken to the State Hospital of San Marino to continue his recovery.

"Finally, if all goes in the right way, I'll return back home!" de Angelis said. "Of course I will not really be in my house, but in the State Hospital of San Marino where I'll meet again all my friends and where I can finally talk again in Italian with the health care personnel.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank first of all my family, my father and my brother, that reached as far as Japan to me, my team and [team boss] Giampiero Sacchi that I have been very close in these days and not least Dr. Michele Zasa from Clinica Mobile that was close to me many days by coordinating the work of his Japanese colleagues in the hospital and my return to San Marino too.

"I am very sorry for what happened because I wanted to make a beautiful Asian trip, but in the end all went well, because I have hard injuries, but nothing that will prevent me from continuing to race and for this I'm happy. From when I get home ahead, it's waiting for me a long and difficult rehabilitation, but there is the time and the desire to return on the saddle as soon as I can.

"I don't hide that I would be in Valencia, if I will, to say hello to all the paddock people, perhaps using the Clinica Mobile to continue to do my therapy. Right now I don't want to forget anyone once again thanking all those who have sent me messages - millions - on both personal and socials.

"Knowing that there are many people who wants you back in action is fantastic in these difficult times. Staying stuck in bed all the time is boring, then every second spent on reading a message was an enjoyable time. I will be back soon!"
