It's taken Scott Redding just two tests to find the feeling and confidence with Pramac Ducati that was so obviously lacking on last year's Marc VDS Honda.

Save for a miraculous Misano podium, and solid sixth at Silverstone, Redding was often fighting simply to break into the top ten. His 13th in the final standings was one place lower than he'd been on an Open class Honda in his rookie 2014 campaign.

But Redding wasn't afraid to make some brave decisions, walking away from Marc VDS and Honda for a new start at Pramac, whose top rider - Danilo Petrucci - was tenth in last year's standings.

Redding had good memories of Ducati from a debut MotoGP test back in 2012. Despite the changes the Desmosedici has been through since then, plus the 2016 switch to Michelin tyres and a single ECU, Redding felt at home from the start.

Indeed, he finished November's private Jerez test - attended by Honda, Ducati and Aprilia - on top of the timesheets.

"I just have more feeling so I've got more confidence and I can predict what's going to happen. I can just get a bit more of a flow and a rhythm. Last year it never happened. I was always trying to go somewhere I couldn't get to," Redding told

"I like the positioning on the bike. The fitting on the bike is really good. I like the power delivery and basically how everything runs. It's just better for me. Also I like the way the team is running, very calm but very productive and no real major pressure.

"The Michelins suit me a bit more and the electronics I don't really feel that much difference compared to the electronics I've used before. So I feel comfortable."

Now 1.85m and 78kg, Redding often struggled against smaller opponents in the lower grand prix classes. Despite having in excess of 240 horsepower from the MotoGP prototypes, the 23-year-old still finds he needs to do things a bit differently to compensate for his size.

"Just be a bit different with the lines," he said. "A lot of the guys go in to the corner early and pick the bike up, but I'm heavier so I need to carry a bit of corner speed even with this horsepower."

Fortunately, Redding's new team-mate Petrucci (1.80m and 77kg) is a similar size meaning there is a better chance that if a certain setting is working for one rider, it'll work for the other as well.

"It does help," Redding confirmed. "Especially if we are trying something and can confirm it. If you have two riders that are similar instead of, for example, me and Mika Kallio in the past where we were completely opposite."

Redding was team-mate to Kallio for three of his four Moto2 seasons, which culminated in a title battle with Pol Espargaro in 2013.

But since joining the premier-class, Redding has effectively been without a team-mate, riding a different spec machine to Alvaro Bautista at Gresini in 2014, then becoming the only rider for the new Marc VDS entry last year.

Last season ended with Redding just 13th in the standings, but he is determined to leap up the order in 2016.

"I'd be happy for a top six in the championship. Try and fight for a few podiums would be good and I think we've got that chance. So we need to make the most of it, be focussed, dedicated and make it work."
