New Gresini Moto2 rider Sam Lowes is fired up for the first official Moto2 test after completing two private days of preparation at the same Jerez circuit.

The Englishman focussed on set-up work with his 2016 Kalex and Ohlins suspension, lowering his best time to a 1m 42.681 during a mammoth 97 Sunday laps, which is under the official pole position record.

"Another great day!" Lowes said. "We managed to try many things on the bike and also new suspension parts. What it makes us optimistic is that in the two days of testing we worked on different areas, but everything always gave good results, so now we just need to try to put all together in order to take another step forward ahead of Qatar.

"Today we focused in particular on the front fork, but we also worked on the rear to improve grip, something that we will continue to work on also in the next test: the fact that it will be held on the same track, always here in Jerez, will allow us to do make precise comparisons."

Lowes also completed a long 20-lap run.

"At the end of the day we could improve more, trying to make a flying lap, but at the moment there is no need to push. We are fast on the [race] distance and that's what matters: I completed a long run of 20 laps and my last lap was the best one. This means that we are very consistent, and that the bike allows me to be very fast also in the final stages of a race."

Lowes and Gresini will be back in action for the first of two official tests, from March 2-4.
