Dani Pedrosa is looking forward to focusing solely on racing this weekend at Mugello with a clear mind after renewing his ties with Honda for a further two years.

Pedrosa had been at the centre of rumours that he was set to switch to the Movistar Yamaha team, but the Spaniard has remained loyal to HRC and signed a new two-year deal to remain with the Japanese manufacturer until 2018 at least.

Currently fourth in the MotoGP World Championship, Pedrosa will reach an impressive milestone of 250 GP races on Sunday and is targeting a higher qualifying position at the Italian round to boost his prospects of escaping with the frontrunners in the early part of the race.

"I'm very happy to arrive at the Italian GP having already renewed with Honda and aware I will be able to keep working with a team I know and trust," said the 28-year-old.

"With our future well lined up we'll be totally free to just focus on the work to do on track. Mugello has a very fast and flowing layout with many long corners so finding a good set-up and a good grip will be crucial.

"So far my overall pace in races has been better than it could be expected from practices, in Le Mans at least it was so in the second part of the race, so I'm hoping to start strong from Friday and to keep improving over the weekend," Pedrosa added.

"I'll try to do better Saturday in qualifying and to get a better grid position so be closer to the front and not remaining stuck in the first part of the race."
