Former GP125 champions Emilio Alzamora has signed to ride in GP250 next season, despite failing to recapture his GP125 crown in 2000.

The gangly Spaniard received his first taste of the AXO Gresini machine he will ride in 2001 when he joined the Italian team for a post-season test session at Phillip Island earlier this week, and spent two rain-interrupted days concentrating on trying to adapt the Honda to his riding style.

Alzamora, who will partner Y2K championship challenger Daijiro Katoh in the Gresini team next year, completed around 80 laps of the Australian circuit on his first day, before the rain that blighted the race weekend at the venue, returned to prevent any great amount of running on day two.
