Aprilia have had just one win in the 250 class at Suzuka, with Biaggi in 1996. Honda have won six times in the last seven years. Yamaha's last win in the 250 class at Suzuka was back in 1993 with Tetsuya Harada.

Marco Melandri is the only rider in the 250cc entry list who has previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, having taken victory at the German GP last year.

Only three of the current 250cc class riders have started from pole in the class: Marco Melandri, Fonsi Nieto and Franco Battaini.
