After his second place at Motegi, Marco Melandri goes to Sepang with a 52- point lead in the 250cc World Championship and could clinch the title by finishing in front of Fonsi Nieto on Sunday.

Should he take the crown, it would make Melandri the youngest ever rider to win the 250cc World title, at the age of 20 years and 67 days, taking the record from fellow Italian superstar Valentino Rossi.

Youngest 250cc World Champions:

1. Valentino Rossi 20 years 250 days 1999
2. Mike Hailwood 21 years 168 days 1961
3. John Kocinski 22 years 180 days 1990
4. Tetsuya Harada 23 years 104 days 1993
5. Max Biaggi 23 years 105 days 1994

Melandri finished eleventh last year in Malaysia while still suffering from injuries sustained at the Pacific GP. So far this season the MS Aprilia rider has had ten consecutive top four finishes, nine podiums and six victories.
