Spaniard Sete Gibernau raised the already growing atmosphere in Barcelona this morning by setting the pace in morning warm-up.

In contrast to yesterday's scorching final qualifying session, today dawned much cooler and this afternoon's race could well take place under more rider - and tyre - friendly weather, throwing a question mark over set-up.

Catalan born Gibernau put his Telefonica Honda on top by just 0.026secs from Loris Capirossi, right at the end of the half hour session, whilst Alex Barros kept Honda hopes alive by finishing the session ahead of pole sitter Valentino Rossi (4th).

Camel Pramac Pons team-mates Max Biaggi and Tohru Ukawa seem to have some improvements overnight as they took fifth and sixth fastest positions, whilst Checa, Nakano, Edwards and Melandri also looked comfortable with their machinery.

Makoto Tamada, who would benefit most from another roosting race thanks to his Bridgestone tyres, was 11th quickest - just ahead of Troy Bayliss.

Front row starter Jacque managed just 15th fastest.
