Valentino Rossi confirmed he'll be the man to beat this afternoon at Estoril by leading morning warm-up, giving him a perfect boost prior to this afternoon's 28 lap Portuguese Grand Prix.

Pole sitter Loris Capirossi led the early part of the session, before Rossi rose to the top just after the midway point of the 20 minutes. The Repsol rider then eased ahead with small improvements on almost each lap to hold a comfortable advantage over the #65 Ducati.

However, today's main event looks like being a close fought affair with front row starters Max Biaggi and Sete Gibernau also looking comfortable at race pace - while Yamaha could be set for their best race after occupying positions 4-8 this morning.

Not having such a good session was Chris Burns, who was thrown high from his WCM in the closing minutes after the back kicked around into turn one, fortunately the Brit walked away unaided and didn't appear to further damage his still healing collarbone.
