Sixteen-year-old Chaz Davies grabbed his first ever top ten grand prix finish with a brilliant ninth place Saturday's 22-lap 250cc Rio Grand Prix.

Riding the #57 KF Concept Aprilia, Davies was involved in a frantic seven-man battle against much more experienced opponents, some on factory machinery, in a race won by Championship leader Manuel Poggiali.

"It was hard work but I just gritted my teeth and got on with it," explained an exhausted Davies after the race. "My rear suspension was pumping up causing the bike to slide but so was everybody else's around me. I was a bit disappointed when West and Olive past me but it's a great result.

"My sponsor (KF Concept) promised me a thousand pounds when I finished in the top ten and that will help with our air fares for the next three races," he stated.
