On Friday at 20:00 local time, Daniel Pedrosa underwent surgery at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on the ankle injuries suffered in first free practice session for the 125cc Australian GP.
The 18-year-old, who has a fracture of the inner malleolus on his right leg and two other fractures - one on the tibia and one on the astragalus - in his left leg, underwent surgery on both limbs.

During the four hour operation, carried out by one of the best trauma units in Victoria, surgeons inserted two screws into his right foot. An unspecified number of screws were also inserted into left foot, which was a more complicated injury.

Dr. Edwood, who led the surgery, stated that the operation had been a success and Dani enjoyed a trouble-free night under observation. He is now beginning his recovery and will return home to Spain as soon as possible.

The Clinica Mobile calculate a recovery period of around three to four months before the new 125cc World Champion can get back on a motorcycle.

Pedrosa is expected to move to the 250cc class in 2004, again on a Telefonica backed Honda.
