New 250cc world champion Manuel Poggiali has confirmed that he will remain in the quarter-litre class with Aprilia next season, so he can gain the necessary experience to move to MotoGP in the future.

"I will continue to ride for Aprilia in the 250cc class next season," stated Poggiali at the Bologna Motorshow. "This year I won the title in the last race at the end of a hard fought, excellent championship. Next season, even though my main aim will be the title again, I'll also gain a lot more experience.

"I still don't feel ready for the next step up to MotoGP," confessed the San Marinese. "I have to mature and 250 GP is the right category to do that."

And who would Manuel hope to ride for in the premier-class? "Surely the motorcycle to beat these days is the Honda, but I believe that the work Aprilia is doing now will soon be showing results."

Jeremy McWilliams and Shane Byrne will ride the Aprilia RS Cube in MotoGP next season.
