While much attention was focussed on the Desmosedici debuts of Neil Hodgson and Ruben Xaus, at Valencia today, Ducati's regular factory riders' - Troy Bayliss and Loris Capirossi - continued development of the Italian company's 2004 racer.

Three Desmosedicis were brought to Valencia for the tests, with Bayliss and Capirossi joined by official test-rider Vittoriano Guareschi, who was testing specific components for next year on a 'laboratory' bike.

However, Ducati - like everyone present - found their running restricted by cold, damp, weather conditions in the morning, although things improved slightly for the afternoon.

Nevertheless, lap times were some way off the ultimate pace of Valentino Rossi at the season ending Valencia Grand Prix, but Bayliss still got to within 0.3secs of fastest man today - Honda's Sete Gibernau - during the Aussie's 28 laps. Capirossi was 0.6secs slower than his team-mate after just 20 circulations.

Testing will continue tomorrow and Friday.
