Marc Marquez says he is ‘very happy’ with the efforts being made by Honda to improve the RCV after revealing he tried a different chassis during the Brno test in July.

Ultimately, Marquez has decided to stick with what he knows as the MotoGP World Championship resumes this weekend in the Czech Republic, but the reigning champion is more than satisfied with the efforts being made in Japan.

“Two weeks ago, here, we tested and like always in a test, some things were working well, some things I preferred what we already have up to now. But I was happy because I saw that all of Japanese staff were pushing a lot to try and improve and we improved in some areas,” he said.

“Always you try to learn a few things, you try to improve. Honda is trying to push at the maximum to give the best package to all Honda riders. I am quite happy for the Brno test and now I look forward to this weekend, for the Monday test and then the next races, when it will be important to always be constant and fast.

“I can not explain everything but we tried once chassis and it was a little bit more to try to understand the way because we are missing something on the corner exit, so it was to try to understand,” added Marquez.

“But in this case I prefer what we have because we know how to set up the chassis and I don’t want to have something new, but they are working and I was happy about the test.”

Marquez holds a slender advantage of five points over Maverick Vinales at the top of the standings and says the second half of the championship will be a test of everyone’s mettle.

“Summer break is the time for everything, to relax, to train, to test in Brno, and now it’s time to turn on everything and try again to get the rhythm of race weekends. This second part of the season will be very hard, very difficult to be always on the top – to be competitive – because many riders are on the top. We will try to be there, from the Brno race to Valencia.

“It [Brno test] will be a small help for us because here at Brno, normally we struggle a little bit, and on the test we struggle on the first day. On the second day we improved a little bit and minimum we arrive here with a good base set-up.

“But it looks like the temperature this weekend will be very high and in the test, everything was a bit more fresh. It will be a small help for Brno race and for the second part of the season because we had a small improvement, so we will try to be more competitive.

“I look forward to the next test and the next races because it is time to push, everybody go in the same way, and I am really happy with the work that they did.”
