Maverick Vinales says there is much work to be done to ensure the Movistar Yamaha is competitive in all conditions.

The Spaniard, who replaced Jorge Lorenzo in the team this season, is currently second in the championship standings, only five points behind Marc Marquez.

Vinales is feeling focused and ready for the second half of the MotoGP World Championship, but one area where he feels there is plenty of room for improvement with the factory YZR-M1 is in wet and damp conditions.

“For me, we have to improve especially when the conditions are not the best – when we have mixed conditions or rain conditions we have to improve. This is something we have to do quite fast, so we have a lot of work,” said Vinales, speaking ahead of this weekend’s tenth round of the championship at Brno in the Czech Republic.

“In Brno I always ride quite fast and last year I was quite strong, especially on the dry, but also on the wet I was feeling quite fast. Let’s see – I have a good feeling and when you are at 100 per-cent, I think everything goes good.”

Vinales has recharged during the summer break and is aiming to return to the level that saw him march into the lead of the championship at the beginning of the season.

“We start the second half of the season on a good level. I feel really good, my physical condition, and mentally I feel really strong as always.

“We had one month to think, also Yamaha to recollect all the information, and now trying to build a really good bike, a really good set-up, and feeling as strong as I was in the start of the season is going to be really important.

“I feel really relaxed and focused and that is something that makes me really strong.”
