Aprilia is set to unveil a new aerodynamic fairing this weekend at Misano.

The Gresini team tested at the Marco Simoncelli circuit two weeks ago and it would seem the fairing upgrade will be in the style currently used by Ducati, based on Aprilia Racing manager Romano Albesiano’s comments.

He said: “We are heading to Misano rather optimistically, especially in light of the tests done here two weeks ago which were definitely positive.

“We will most likely have an aerodynamic upgrade, basically in line with the interpretation of the rules which seems to be consolidated at this point. From a technical point of view, we will be focusing primarily on tests with the fuel tank full, since the early laps of the race are the ones where we are struggling the most.”

Misano is the home round of the MotoGP World Championship for Aprilia and carries particular importance this year, marking 30 years since Loris Reggiani claimed the manufacturer’s maiden Grand Prix success in the 250cc class.

Aleix Espargaro is eager to seal a strong result on the RS-GP and admits this weekend will be a ‘special occasion’ for Aprilia.

“I rested after Silverstone to recover from my injury. The tests done here went well,” he said.

“They let us take another step forward and we are coming to Misano with all our papers in order to do a good race. This is a special occasion for Aprilia and I'll give it my all.”

Britain’s Sam Lowes, who will be replaced in the team for 2018 by Scott Redding, is also fired up to put on a good show at Misano on Sunday.

“We tested here in Misano recently and I had a good feeling. This is Aprilia's home race, so I hope to do well this weekend. Right now I am feeling at ease on the bike and with the work the team is doing.”
